What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when a website loads in your browser. They let a site work properly, keep it secure, and show how it is being used.
How we use cookies
This website uses cookies for three things, and no others:
- To make sure you see our latest sermons and events, rather than an out of date copy of a page your own browser saved earlier.
- For analytics, so that we can see in general terms which pages people find useful. This is Google Analytics.
- To embed videos from YouTube, which brings Google’s own cookies with them.
Only the first of those is set whatever you choose. Analytics and the video embeds run only if you accept them. If you close the banner without choosing, or choose Reject All, neither happens.
We do not advertise, and we do not use cookies for advertising. We sell nothing through this site and no advertiser pays to appear on it.
You will still see some cookies in the table below listed under Advertisement. Those are Google’s, set when a YouTube video is embedded in one of our pages. Google uses them for its own advertising across its services. They are not ours. We gain nothing from them, nothing is shown to you on this site as a result, and they are set only if you accept them. The same holds for the Google map on our Contact page and for the links to our Facebook and YouTube pages. Using those brings Google’s and Meta’s own terms rather than ours.
The one cookie we set whatever you choose
Some of our pages change more often than the rest of the site. Your browser normally keeps its own copy of a page and shows you that saved copy next time you visit. That is quicker, but it means you can be shown information that is out of date without realising it. We set one small cookie on those pages. It tells our web host to send your browser the current version rather than let it reuse an older copy. What you see is then what we have published.
Because it is set even if you reject everything else, here is plainly what it holds:
- Its value is the single word fresh. It is the same for every visitor.
- It contains no name, no identifier and no personal information. It cannot tell one visitor from another.
- It is used only on this website, for those pages, and for nothing else.
- It is not used for tracking, advertising or analytics, and nothing is shared with anyone.
- It lasts 32 days, and is renewed each time you visit.
You will see it in the table below as comment_author_niccfresh. The first part of that name is not what it is for, and this site has comments switched off. It is chosen because it is the pattern our web host recognises as a signal to serve a fresh page rather than a saved one.
Because it does nothing but deliver the page you asked for, it is classed as strictly necessary. That is the one category which does not depend on your consent. If you would rather not have it, you can block or delete it in your browser as described below. The only consequence is that a page may occasionally be out of date.
The cookies we use
The table below is maintained automatically by CookieYes, which scans this website and lists what it finds, including how long each cookie lasts. We try to keep it current, but a newly added cookie may take a short time to appear.
